Who we are

Forward is an insights-driven brand consultancy based in New York City. We’re qualitative researchers, cultural thinkers, and brand and business strategists, working to implement empathetic, future-facing strategies for our (mostly) corporate clients.

We work on engaging briefs spanning all kinds of questions about people and culture, from an exciting client roster that includes Diageo, Jordan, Spotify, L'Oréal, PepsiCo, Nike, YouTube, and Disney.

And now, we’re looking for a Strategist to join our growing team.

The role

Forward Strategists play an integral role in all parts of the research and reporting process, laying the foundation for breakthrough project set-up and execution

Strategists are tasked with a multitude of roles, including…

Research and moderation – The heart of our work is qualitative research, much of which is consumer-facing (e.g. focus groups, in-depth interviews, digital communities), and some of which is cultural (e.g. desktop research, expert interviews). Strategists should be prepared to lend a hand with everything from asking digital respondents follow-up questions, to writing discussion guides, to facilitating discussions that accomplish our research objectives

Analysis, strategic thinking, and writing – FWD’s strategic takeaways and sleek deliverables are what differentiates us from more traditional market research firms – and our Strategist hire will help us maintain this high standard. In practice, this means contributing meaningfully to analysis – working together to distill down our learnings into a clear, narrativized story, complete with impactful and memorable strategic frameworks – and helping to write and design parts of FWD decks and toplines

Organizational support – Working through project logistics isn’t glamorous, but it’s critical to overall success. Here, organizational support means writing and launching qualitative screeners to recruit respondents, building out client-facing timelines, helping out with specialty recruits, creating and coordinating Zoom links, scheduling meetings, and more

Client service – We pride ourselves on cultivating strong, ongoing relationships with repeat clients. From day one, all members of the FWD team are client-facing, and so we ask that all Strategists demonstrate strong communication skills and punctuality, and bring a positive attitude to all client interactions.


First and foremost, we’re looking for Strategists who are genuinely passionate about people and culture – who feel energized by meaty cultural questions, like how is masculinity changing? or what does true crime tell us about America circa 2021? We care just as much about moderation experience as we do about curiosity, empathy, diligence, and kindness.

We’ve done our best to create a warm, casual, and accepting space where employees can bring their whole selves to work, and we’d hope you’d feel comfortable reciprocating – telling us about your weird after-hours habits, or about that incredible restaurant you tried over the weekend.

Beyond the above, all applicants must…

  • have 1-2 years of relevant experience in research, insights, branding, strategy and / or advertising
  • feel comfortable navigating Zoom, Slack, and the Microsoft suite
  • be based in the New York City area (or willing to relocate)
  • be open to occasional work travel, once this becomes possible again
